Weather Channel meteorologist Jim Cantore is reporting from Lake Charles, Louisiana, as of Tuesday morning.

Tracking Cantore has become a phenomenon in the South due to his notorious "storm magnet" tendencies. He was spotted in New Orleans on Monday ahead of Tropical Storm Marco's landfall.

Hurricane Laura is expected to hit the southwest coast of Louisiana and upper Texas on Wednesday night into Thursday morning as a "major hurricane," according to the National Hurricane Center.

"It's not gonna be a Harvey flood event, but we're gonna see it move north," Cantore said during a Tuesday morning Weather Channel broadcast.

The damage potential of Laura will reach as far inland as Oklahoma, Arkansas and even beyond, he said.

"Holy smoke. We can't catch a break here," Cantore said.

Cantore was in New Orleans last year for Hurricane Barry and made an appearance for Tropical Storm Cindy in Lake Charles in June 2017.

Will Hurricane Laura be hitting Texas?

Lake Charles is no stranger to strong storms, Cantore said Tuesday, mentioning Hurricane Rita in September 2005. Rita made landfall in Johnson's Bayou, bringing storm surge, heavy rain and flooding to Lake Charles.

Cantore could soon be headed to Galveston, Texas, before circling back to Lake Charles, according to James Corvington, a man who met the meteorologist in New Orleans on Monday morning

Los Angeles Angels center fielder and self-proclaimed "weather geek" has been in contact with Cantore. The two could meet in Houston, according to MLB reporter J.P. Hoornstra.

"When Cantore comes to a spot, it mean's he's bringing ground zero," Trout said.
